Tools for identifying Costa Rican Pheidole

Pheidole is so diverse and so fills "morphology space" that it is difficult to construct a dichotomous key. I recommend comparing specimens carefully with the species pages, not only comparing the image for general agreement, but also checking each of the items listed in the written identification section. I provide here a set of tables that are linked to the species pages. The tables may allow you to narrow your search to a subset of the species pages. I recommend looking at a range of species pages and finding the best match, rather than accepting the first one that seems to fit well.

Mike Kaspari adds this note: I can copy the Size-ID page into an Excel file, sort it by Soldier HW (or anything else) and it retains the URL, so its kind of a default extra web page. You may want to let your dear readers know this is an option if they want to work on soldiers.
