Natural History

This species is known from the cloud forest habitats of Monteverde and 1800m elevation in Braulio Carrillo National Park. In Monteverde, it is a common inhabitant of the forest canopy, living in the soil beneath epiphyte mats. The species has occurred in 7 of my Winkler samples from the canopy, but only one of dozens of ground samples. I have also collected colonies by searching under epiphyte mats. The collection from Braulio Carrillo was from under moss mats. This species is clearly a specialized inhabitant of canopy soil.
