Pachycondyla commutata. Mackay and Mackay (2010) report a locality record of "San Jose" for this otherwise South American species. No repository is given for the specimen record. It is not clear whether Mackay and Mackay observed specimens or based the record on older literature. Given that the very similar P. laevigata is widespread in Costa Rica, this record is doubtful and is possibly a misidentification of a P. laevigata collection.
Pachycondyla holcotyle Mackay and Mackay 2010. This species was described from Colombian material, with one or more workers also reported from Guanacaste Province, Lomas Barbudal.
Pachycondyla inversa. Mackay and Mackay (2010) report this species from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and further south, but state that it is nearly impossible to distinguish from curvinodis. I will call all Central American material curvinodis until more evidence accrues that there are two sympatric species.
Pachycondyla lunaris. Mackay and Mackay (2010) report this Paraguayan species from Costa Rica and other parts of Central America and northern South America. The ferrugineus complex comprises many cryptic species in Central America, and it is premature to use the name lunaris for any Central American forms.
Pachycondyla minuta Mackay and Mackay 2010. This species was described from a single queen from Chiapas, Mexico. Although not officially recorded from Costa Rica, Mackay and Mackay suggested similarity to one of my Costa Rican morphospecies. When the ferrugineus group is revised, this isolated queen will have to be dealt with.
Pachycondyla moesta. Mackay and Mackay 2010 separate this species from crenata and record it being sympatric with crenata in Costa Rica. I will continue to use crenata until there is stronger evidence for multiple sympatric forms in Costa Rica.
