Range

Costa Rica: Cordillera Volcanica Central, Braulio Carrillo National Park above 500m.

Identification

Preorbital carina curved inward, arcing obliquely toward frontal carina; propodeal spines long, much longer than other tubercles on dorsal face of propodeum; scapes long, extending well beyond margin of vertex; color dark red brown; promesonotum with three principal pairs of spines.

Similar species: intermedius.

Natural History

I know this species from four collections, all from mature forest sites on the slopes of Volcan Barva. At the 500m site on the Barva transect I collected a worker in the canopy of a Licania tree, about 20m high. I also found workers at 950m on the Barva Transect and at the old Carrillo station near the bridge over the Rio Sucio. These workers were among general collections from all habitats. Jim Wetterer collected the species at Rara Avis.
