Attini, Myrmicinae, Formicidae, Hymenoptera, Insecta, Arthropoda, Animalia
Range
Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia (type locality), Trinidad, Guianas. Costa Rica: northwestern lowlands.
Identification
Preorbital carina curved inward, arcing obliquely toward frontal carina; propodeal spines short, not or barely differentiated from other tubercles on dorsal face of propodeum; scapes just reach vertex margin; frontal lobes rounded.
Similar species: cornetzi.
Natural History
In Costa Rica I have collected this species twice. Both collections were from seasonal dry forest habitats, in Winkler samples of sifted leaf litter from the forest floor. One collection was from Finca La Pacifica, in a patch of riparian forest, and the other was from Santa Rosa National Park, in the "bosque humedo."
Comments
The Costa Rican specimens closely match specimens I collected from the Santa Marta area of Colombia. The type locality of bugnioni is Colombia.
