Range

Costa Rica: montane forest of Cordillera de Tilar‡n.

Identification

Color brown; mandible subfalcate, with strong apical tooth, third tooth widely separated from second tooth, no fourth tooth; clypeus projecting, with moderately diverging carinae; clypeal carinae do not project as anterior teeth; eyes with 2-5 ommatidia; antennal scapes long; metanotal groove broadly impressed, somewhat "U"-shaped; postpetiole lacking ventral tooth, relatively low compared to petiolar node; dorsal surfaces with abundant long flexuous setae.

Natural History

I know this species from one collection. The locality is Prov. Puntarenas, Est. Biol. Los Llanos, near Santa Elena, 10¡18'N, 84¡50'W, 1150m. The habitat was moist riparian forest in a steep ravine. I found a dense aggregation of workers and brood under a rock.
