Lenomyrmex is a small genus of rare ants known from Ecuador, Colombia, and Panama (Fernandez 2001, Fernandez and Palacio 1999), and an undescribed species has recently been collected in Costa Rica. There are only five described species, all known from very few or single specimens. They have all been collected in wet forest habitats, from sea level to mid-elevation montane forest. They have been collected by manual search and in Berlese and Winkler samples from the forest floor.
