The genus Cerapachys in Costa Rica

Cerapachys are cryptic, blind ants that are rarely encountered. Apparently, there were no records of Cerapachys from Costa Rica before 1972, because Kempf's 1972 catalog of the Neotropical fauna had no Cerapachys species whose range included Costa Rica. However, intensive sampling programs that use Winkler and Berlese sampling yield specimens fairly frequently. Alate queens can be found in Malaise and fogging samples.
