Myrmicinae, Formicidae, Hymenoptera, Insecta, Arthropoda, Animalia
Range
Costa Rica: Atlantic slope.
Identification
Antennae 9-segmented, so small it is hard to count the five segments between the two-segmented club and the larger first funicular segment; mesosoma relatively elongate; propodeum with separate dorsal face rounding into posterior face; propodeal suture not impressed; petiole lacking anteroventral tooth.
Natural History
This species occurs in lowland rainforest. It is known from one minor worker from La Selva Biological Station. It was collected in a Winkler sample as part of the TEAM (Tropical Ecological Assessment and Monitoring) project.
Comments
This single worker is very similar to material I have identified as C. inca. The only difference I have found is the shape of the propodeum, which is more elongated and quadrate than other members of the C. escherichi species complex (sensu Fern‡ndez 2004).
