Range
Peru (type loc.), Costa Rica. Costa Rica: Atlantic and Pacific slopes.
Identification
Antennae 9-segmented, so small it is hard to count the five segments between the two-segmented club and the larger first funicular segment; mesosoma strongly ankylosed; propodeal suture not impressed; propodeum short and sloping, without distinct dorsal face; petiole lacking anteroventral tooth; mesosomal and metasomal dorsa with abundant suberect pubescence, lacking erect setae or at lease these not clearly distinguishable from pubescence; color yellow.
Natural History
This is an extremely tiny ant. I know the species from two collections:
Costa Rica, Prov. Puntarenas, Osa Peninsula, Ranch Quemado: ex sifted leaf litter from wet forest floor (Winkler sample).
Costa Rica, Prov. Heredia, 17km N Vol. Barba, 800m (Barva Transect): ex sifted leaf litter from wet forest floor (Winkler sample).
Comments
Fern‡ndez described this species from one collection from Peru. This species matches the description and keys to C. inca, although it is difficult to distinguish his C. inca and C. paya (a related species from Colombia).
