Range
Costa Rica: Atlantic lowlands.
Identification
Minor worker: Propodeum with distinct pair of posteriorly projecting subtriangular teeth; dorsal face of propodeum subrectangular, longer than wide in dorsal view; propodeal spines widely spaced; first gastral tergite with very dilute pubescence, not obscuring integument; petiole compressed, scale-like, without posteriorly directed spine; pronotum shiny; propodeal suture deeply impressed.
Natural History
I know this species only from Atlantic lowland rainforest in the vicinity of La Selva Biological Station. There are numerous collections from La Selva, and I have collected it up to 600m elevation on the forested slopes above La Selva. The species occurs in the high canopy of mature rainforest. Workers are moderately common in canopy fogging samples. Nests I have observed have all been in narrow-guage dead stems, less than 1cm outside diameter. These have all been in the tops of rainforest trees, found either by climbing the trees or searching in recent treefalls. I have not collected the species in open or highly disturbed areas, and I do not find workers on low vegetation.
