Range
Costa Rica (rainforest habitats, mid-elevation Atlantic slope, Osa Peninsula).
Identification
Minor worker: scapes with short, fully appressed pubescence, no erect setae; lateral margins of head with short stiff projecting setae clustered near mandibular insertions, absent posteriorly; propodeum, meso and metathorax highly fused, sutures very weak, forming a single unit that articulates with the prothorax; dorsal profile with dorsal and posterior faces of propodeum very weakly differentiated, dorsal face longer than posterior face and slightly depressed; propodeum strongly laterally compressed, tectiform; integument of head, mesosoma, and gaster finely shagreened, mat; first gastral tergite with very sparse, short appressed pubescence and a few erect setae; integument color orange red throughout, with variable development of infuscated bands on gaster.
Major worker: head subcordate, characters generally as in worker.
Natural History
This does not appear to be a very common species; I have encountered it only 8 times. My collections are all from rainforest sites. Six collections were foragers picked from vegetation, during both nocturnal and diurnal collecting. I have found nests twice, once under loose bark of a rotten stump, and once in a bark cavity near the base of a large Vismia tree.
