Formicinae, Formicidae, Hymenoptera, Insecta, Arthropoda, Animalia
Range
Costa Rica to Venezuela. Costa Rica: northern Pacific lowlands.
Identification
Minor worker: face, mesosoma, and gaster dark brown black overlain with variegated silky luster; scapes flattened, lacking erect setae; abundant short setae projecting from sides of head; tibiae with abundant stubble of short, stiff setae; propodeal suture strongly impressed.
Natural History
I know this species from few collections. I have collected it (1) near Santa Cecilia, in Guanacaste Province, in a forest transitional between Atlantic wet forest and Pacific dry forest; (2) in Santa Rosa National Park, in the "bosque humedo;" (3) along the lower part of the road to Monteverde, sweeping scrubby roadside vegetation; and (4) at Carara Biological Reserve, around the headquarters building. All my collections have been isolated workers, so I have no information on nesting habits.
