Range

Costa Rica: Monteverde, Pe–as Blancas.

Identification

Face smooth, with abundant, short, suberect pubescence; scapes surpass vertex margin by length of first funicular segment; mesosoma with no erect setae; first gastral tergite with sparse appressed pubescence, no erect setae; metanotal groove deeply impressed; color orange with darker gaster.

Natural History

I know this species almost exclusively from the canopy of the Monteverde cloud forest. It is relatively common in Winkler samples of sifted soil and epiphytic material from the canopy, but does not occur in Winkler samples from the ground. I have never seen a nest during hand collecting. I have one record of a "stray worker" from Refugio Eladio at 800m in the Pe–as Blancas Valley.
