This genus is currently known from a handful of alate queens, from Paraguay, Venezuela, and Costa Rica. The type specimen was from a lowland rainforest site in southern Venezuela, from a pan trap. Alex Wild collected a queen in Paraguay, from a shaded lawn of a university campus. Two queens were collected as part of Project ALAS in Costa Rica in 2004. One was from a pan trap at La Selva Biological Station, a lowland rainforest site, and the other was from a Malaise trap at the "Cantarrana" site on the Volcan Barva transect, just upslope from La Selva at 300m.

The genus has the single species B. hispidula, and so far the known specimens, even though widely distributed, look identical. The holotype is imaged in Lattke's original publication, Alex Wild has an image of a live specimen on Myrmecos.net, and there are Automontage images on AntWeb.
