Identification
Mandibles about as long as head, with no preapical teeth or denticles; face covered with large, shallow fossae.
Range
Brazil, Trinidad, Panama, Costa Rica. Costa Rica: widespread.
Natural History
Inhabits lowland to lower montane wet and moist forest; nests have been observed in rotten twigs or small pieces of rotten wood on the forest floor, and under epiphytes; predaceous on small arthropods.
Selected Records
Winkler samples from La Selva, Guanacaste Conservation Area (Pitilla), 900m elevation in a moist forest patch just west of Monteverde, Carara (500m).
La Selva: under epiphyte mats on old treefall.
La Selva: Queen was alone in a chamber in a small knot on a recent live branchfall.
