Identification
Minor worker: head length 0.60mm, head width 0.57mm, scape length 0.68mm, Webers length 0.77mm (n=1). Head rounded behind; mesonotal suture absent, promesonotum evenly arched; propodeal spines of moderate length, erect; face, pronotum, and mesonotal dorsum smooth and shining; katepisternum and side of propodeum coarsely foveolate; propodeal dorsum weakly foveolate; gaster smooth and shining; dorsal pilosity abundant, long, flexuous, dark amber; color brown-black.
Similar species: lustrata. Pheidole lustrata has head more flattened behind, katepisternum more finely foveolate, propodeal dorsum smooth and shining, dorsal setae light-colored, clear.
Range
Costa Rica: Cordillera Volcanica Central, Braulio Carrillo National Park, Barva transect at 500m.
Natural History
This species occurs in mature wet forest leaf litter. It is known from one worker obtained in Winkler sample during 2003 ALAS expeditions to 500m site.
