Identification
Minor worker: head length 0.66mm, head width 0.52mm, scape length 0.88mm, Webers length 0.87mm (n=1). Head without vertex collar; promesonotal and metanotal grooves well impressed; face superficially foveolate with irregularly shaped medial shiny patch; mesosoma foveolate throughout; gastral dorsum weakly shagreened anteriorly, fading to smooth and shiny posteriorly; pilosity bristly, with erect setae short, stiff, dark brown, some of them flattened and expanded at the tip; head and gaster dark brown to black, mesosoma lighter red-brown.
Major worker: head length 0.92mm, head width 0.84mm, scape length 0.81mm (n=1); face rugose foveolate, the punctation somewhat patchy, interspersed with smooth shiny patches, especially medially; surface of face somewhat lumpy, not evenly convex; hypostomal margin flat with pair of widely-spaced teeth, each tooth sharp and needle-like, located in front of small recessed tooth flanking mandible (Figure); pilosity bristly like minor worker, including abundant erect setae on sides of head.
A collection from the San Vito area of Costa Rica has a shinier face on minor worker and major worker (Figure).

Costa Rica (Atlantic slope).
Natural History
Occurs in wet forest habitats; rare.
