Range

Costa Rica, Guatemala (type locality), Honduras, Mexico. Costa Rica: northwestern lowlands.

Identification

Minor worker: head length 1.11mm, head width 0.77mm, scape length 1.56mm, Webers length 1.44mm (n=1). In full face view, posterior margin of vertex elongate, subtrapezoidal; narrow vertex collar; promesonotal and metanotal grooves well impressed; propodeal spines of moderate length, spiniform; face and mesosoma entirely and uniformly foveolate; gaster shagreened; dorsal pilosity moderately abundant, erect, short, stubble-like; color red brown with darker brown gaster.

Major worker: head length 2.17mm, head width 2.09mm, scape length 1.49mm (n=1). Face foveolate throughout, overlain with weak rugae, sculpture becoming weaker on vertex lobes; hypostomal margin with small, blunt median tooth, and pair of large, subtriangular to spiniform teeth located about 3/4 distance from median tooth to recessed teeth flanking mandibles; body, including sides of head, with an abundant stiff stubble of erect setae.

Natural History

This species occurs in open areas in the seasonally dry habitats. It occurs along roadsides, and in scrubby xeric habitats in Santa Rosa National Park (e.g., ridge above Playa Naranjo) and Palo Verde. It is a generalist forager, and comes to tuna baits.
