Identification

Minor worker: head length 0.63mm, head width 0.57mm, scape length 0.57mm, Webers length 0.76mm (n=1). Head rounded behind, with medial area flattened; mesonotal suture weakly impressed; propodeal spines medium length, erect; face and most of mesosoma reticulate rugose; side of pronotum largely smooth and shining; first gastral tergum smooth and shining; dorsal pilosity abundant, medium length, flexuous; color dark red brown.

Major worker: head length 1.18mm, head width 1.18mm, scape length 0.60mm (n=1). Anterior third of face yellow, sharply differentied from brown posterior portion; weak antennal scrobes present in the form of broad, shallow depressions beneath scapes; face shiny; medial area between frontal carinae shiny with subparallel longitudinal rugae; lateral areas beneath sweep of scapes reticulate rugose; posterior half of face smooth and shining; hypostomal margin flat; median tooth absent; stout lateral teeth about one third distance from midline to recessed teeth flanking mandible bases; dorsal pilosity abundant; head with abundant, long, suberect setae projecting from sides of head in face view.

Costa Rica: Monteverde.

Natural History

This species inhabits cloud forest floor leaf litter.
