Glyphuroplata nigella (Weise)

Reddish-brown to black, usually with aeneous luster. Head: vertex punctate, with deep medial sulcus; area behind eyes rugose; frons projecting. Antennae: segment I subglobose; II transverse; III obconical, longer than II; IV-VII transverse, each wider than preceding; VIII ovate, pointed at apex, setose. Pronotum: dorsum convex; form transverse, covered with large, shallow punctures; anterior margin darkened; anterior angles with tooth; basal area slightly depressed; lateral margins arcuate. Scutellum: quadrate, smooth. Elytra: 8 regular rows of punctures at base; scutellar row consisting of 2-5 punctures; punctures between intervals 4 and 6 aligned in three regular rows just posterior to humeri, with rows sometimes irregular or constricted at elytral midpoint; these rows expanding at apical third to form four regular rows divided by a short costa. Venter: pro- and mesosterna punctate; metasternum smooth medially, punctate laterally; abdominal sterna 2-4 with cluster of punctures at sides and scattered punctures elsewhere. Legs: tarsi darker; femora punctate; ventral surface of last tarsal segment with tooth before each claw. Total length: 3.1-3.8 mm.

Larval host plant: Valota sp. (Poaceae) (Riley 1985).

Adults collected on: Eriochloa gracilis (Fourn.) Hitchc. (Poaceae); Mimosa sp. (Fabaceae) (Riley 1985).
