Chalepus similatus Baly

Hispinae, Chrysomelidae, Coleoptera, Insecta, Arthropoda, Animalia


Head, antennae, and most of each leg black; pronotum reddish-orange with side margins and medial vitta black; elytra reddish-orange with apical third black. Head: medial sulcus present as well as sulcus on inner margin of each eye; vertex alutaceous; reddish-orange spot between eyes; front projecting. Antennae: segment I subglobose, slightly compressed laterally; II transverse; III-IV cylindrical, sulcate; V-X transverse, setose; XI setose, apex oblique. Pronotum: transverse; side margins angulate in middle; anterior angles with tooth; posterior angles acute; convex; covered with large punctures; basal impression present. Scutellum: quadrate; alutaceous. Elytra: side margins sparsely dentate; apical margins dentate; punctures in regular rows; tricostate, equally pronounced. Venter: pro- and mesosterna yellowish in middle, black and punctate at sides; abdominal sterna 1-4 yellowish in middle, black at sides, 5 totally black; sterna 1-2 rugose at sides, 3-5 punctate at sides. Legs: femora pale at base, punctate at apex; tibiae punctate, with fringe of setae at apex. Total length: 6.7 mm.
