Tranopelta of Costa Rica

The genus has been recently revised by Fernandez (2003). He recognizes only two species: gilva and subterranea. So far only gilva has been collected in Costa Rica, but subterranea occurs to the north in Mexico and to the south in various South American localities, so it may occur in Costa Rica as well (Fernandez, pers. com.). Tranopelta gilva has the propodeal suture not impressed and the scapes relatively shorter. Tranopelta subterranea has the propodeal suture deeply impressed and the scapes relatively longer.
