Range

Costa Rica: Atlantic lowlands to 600m.

Identification

Scape with macrochaetae conspicuous, long, strongly differentiated from appressed pubescence; mesosoma with no appressed pubescence; propodeum inflated; a less gracile version of caeciliae, relatively smaller and more compact, with shorter mesosoma.

Similar species: caeciliae.

Natural History

This species occurs in wet forest habitats. It occurs in a low proportion of Winkler samples of sifted leaf litter from the forest floor. I have collected it several times as foragers on the ground or in low vegetation. At La Selva Biological Station, I found a nest in a dead stick near a stream edge.
