Monomorium of Costa Rica

The genus Monomorium has a center of diversity in Africa and a smaller radiation in North America. There are only three species known from Costa Rica, all synanthropic. Two are pantropical tramp species of Old World origin, one is of uncertain provenance. They are all highly generalized omnivores, nesting opportunistically in cavities or in the ground.
