Forelius of Costa Rica

The genus Forelius is restricted to the New World, with two centers of abundance, one in southern North America, and one in southern South America (Cuezzo 2000). The species are highly thermophilic, nesting in exposed soils in hot climates, and foraging during the heat of the day.

The genus was most recently revised by Cuezzo (2000) with additional discussion and taxonomic changes by Ward (2005).
