Natural History

This species inhabits coastal zones, open pastures, and urban areas. Nests are in the soil, in some cases with an unadorned and inconspicuous nest entrance, in other cases forming conical craters in sandy soil. Workers can be locally abundant on low vegetation, tending honeydew-producing Hemiptera and extra floral nectaries.
