Carebarella of Costa Rica

These are poorly known ants with only one species known from Costa Rica, C. bicolor. They can easily be confused with Solenopsis. They differ from Solenopsis in the structure of the clypeus. Carebarella has two lateral carinae that are joined anteriorly by a pronounced transverse carina, such that the medial portion of the clypeus is sharply delimited both laterally and anteriorly. Solenopsis, in contrast, has the lateral carinae but not the transverse anterior carina, so that the medial clypeus is not delimited anteriorly but simply slopes to the anterior border.
