Range

Costa Rica: Atlantic slope of Cordillera Volcanica Central, 300-500m elevation.

Identification

Minor worker: propodeum very narrow and elongate, in cross section tectiform (tent-like, like an inverted "V"), without a distinct angle separating lateral and dorsal faces; clypeus with median longitudinal keel; mesosoma very elongate and narrow in lateral view; sides of head parallel, not divergent anteriorly; side of head lacking erect setae; scapes with short fine suberect setae in addition to short suberect pubescence; head subtrapezoidal behind eyes.

Natural History

This species inhabits mature and second growth wet forest. It is known from multiple collections by Project ALAS, from the 300m and 500m sites on the Barva Transect in Braulio Carrillo National Park. Workers occurred in multiple Malaise and flight intercept traps and appeared to be similarly abundant at both sites. Also, a minor and major worker occurred together in one Winkler sample of sifted litter and several workers occurred in a Berlese sample from rotten wood, which suggests that the species nests in rotten wood on the forest floor. I collected a nocturnal forager at the 300m site.
