Identification Last tarsal segment with stiff, erect setae on underside; prothorax is convex having sides with long, shallow sinuation; head and pronotum moderately shiny; body, femora, tibia dull black; tarsi, antennae and palpi rufous to piceous. Range Found on west coastal North America, from Oregon to Kodiak Island, Alaska. Natural History Occurs at low to middle elevations and is a less pronounced forest species than its relatives, occuring in open country with rich vegetaion. On TESC campus this was the second most abundant carabid in the fall; found in mixed, conifer and broadleaf woods and synanthropic habitats. |
