Identification

This species is very large with a body length of 22.8-24.4 mm. Elytra with three rows of foveate setigerous punctures separated by slightly elevated elongate tubercles; upper surface of elytra and pronotum with a faint or marked metalic brassy, copperish or blue reflection. Body and appendages dark brown or black, head without metallic reflection.

Range

Europe; introduced and expanding its range on both coasts of North America. In the West it is found from Queen Charlotte Islands to California and Nevada, and east to Alberta, Montana and Idaho; also established in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, South Quebec and southern Ontario.

Natural History

Extremely synanthropic, restricted to cultivated ground in city parks and gardens and adjacent forest areas at low elevation. On TESC campus, collected from synanthropic areas. One of the specimens is from a small, isolated patch of scot's broom surrounded by extensive forest.
