Identification

The elytral sculpture consists of longitudinally arranged ridges, tubercles, or foveae, or of confluent wrinkles, never of simple striae or rows of punctures.

Natural History

There are about 500 described species with a center of diversity in Central and East Asia; 13 species are known from North America, of which 3 are European introductions. Pronouncedly synanthropic, restricted to cultivated ground, even in vegetated areas of towns and cities.
