Identification

Small species (3.8-6.5mm) which are separable from other carabids of this size by the structure of the mouth parts. Mandibles are highly asymmetric, either the right or left with a transverse notch; labrum is cleft almost to base; clypeus slightly asymmetric, and emarginate. Terminal segment of the maxillary palp slender and cylindrical; antennae pubescent from the third segment; prothorax short with sides not sinuate before the rounded angles. Third interval of the elytra has two dorsal punctures; meso-tarsi and meta-tarsi with double carina on dorsum; sutural striae of elytra non-recurrent; wings full.

Range

Nearctic.

Natural History

Species occur in shady, moist soil and leaves.
