Range

USA to Costa Rica. Costa Rica: vicinity of San Josˇ.

Identification

Posterior face of propodeum straight, not concave, about as long as dorsal face; eye with distinct convex cornea; color light red brown; promesosomal dorsum relatively flat, in same plane as dorsal face of propodeum; anteroventral petiolar margin with an anteriorly directed angular tooth.

Comments

Borgmeier (1939) named Eciton opacithorax var. castaneum, based on workers from Costa Rica. He later synonymized it with N. opacithorax. So by the literature N. opacithorax, a common species in the southwestern U.S., occurs in Costa Rica. I do not know if this is a separate Costa Rican species I have not seen or a misidentification on Borgmeier's part.
